The Sword of Truth is the second of two magical armaments (the other being the Shield of Virtue) bestowed upon Prince Phillip by Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. It is the weapon responsible for the death of Maleficent.

Appearances

Sleeping Beauty

The Sword of Truth is a moderately-sized double-edged broad- or longsword. It would be difficult to distinguish from other such swords were it not for its exceptional quality and craftpersonship. However, it is enchanted by the fairies so that it possesses amazing magical properties.

The Sword is one of supernatural sharpness which enables it to cut through thick briars in a single blow and even pierce dragon skin. It seems never to dull, no matter how often it is used for such a purpose. The fairies' final enchantment also permits the Sword to be used as a missile weapon and inflict immediate death upon its target in a single strike. This final enchantment is bestowed with the phrase: "Sword of Truth, fly swift and sure, that evil die and good endure!" It is immediately following this that Prince Phillip hurls the sword into the chest of Dragon Maleficent, slaying her.
